Father Robert J. Busher is a native Iowan, born in the town of
Watkins. He is a graduate of Norway High School, St. Ambrose College and North American
College in Rome (Seminary). Fr. Busher was ordained July 17, 1976 at St. Mary's Church in
Williamsburg, Iowa, by the Most Reverend Gerald O'Keefe.
Prior to his assignment to Sacred Heart Cathedral in 2005, Fr. Busher served as Associate
Pastor at St. Patrick's, Iowa City (1976-1978), and St. Mary's, Clinton (1978-1982) and as
Pastor of the following parishes: St. Joseph's, East Pleasant Plain (1982-1986); St.
Francis Cabrini, Richland (1982-1986); St. Thomas More, Iowa City (1986-1989); St.
Patrick's, Iowa City (1989-1996); and St. Mary's, Oskaloosa (1996-2005).
He has also held the following positions in the diocese: Chaplain at University
Hospitals, Pro-Synodal Judge for the Marriage Tribunal, Dean of the Grinnell Deanery,
Diocesan Vocations Director, a member of the Priests' Aid Society of the Diocese of
Davenport, and Co-Chair of the Priestly Life and Ministry Committee of the Presbyteral
Council.
